On the 28th June, 2020, my family were walking through a field on a public footpath. We were near Skidby, in the Yorkshire Wolds.
There was a warning sign about cattle in the field. The sign said: “Cows with calves may be in this field. Keep dogs on lead.” We saw there were lots of cows and calves in the field, but we live in the countryside and are used to cows, so we knew to walk quietly and calmly. We didn’t have a dog with us.
Suddenly, a cow charged straight at my ten-year-old son, and knocked him to the ground.
I pulled him up and we ran into a wooded area. My husband and daughter (aged eleven) were also chased. We managed to run for the gate and got out of the field.
My son has scratches and bruises. Although he was not seriously hurt, it has really scared us.
